Respite
The Respite Program is a consumer-driven program that is designed to enhance the quality of life for children with special needs and their families. The provision of Respite enables families to receive support in the delivery of care for their children.
Focus
In addition to the eligibility requirements listed below, other factors used in determining eligibility include, but are not limited to; the severity of the child’s condition, the intensity of the services required, the child’s functional daily living skills, safety and self-preservation abilities and the presenting needs of the family.
• Provide the child with a safe environment
• Provide the child with opportunities to engage in preferred recreational activities
• Improve the family’s ability to cope with the daily responsibilities of the care for their child
Eligibility
• Child is Medicaid eligible.
• Child is under age 21.
• Child is a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
• Child is a Rhode Island Resident.
• Child’s personal income and assets meet income and resource requirements.
• Child resides with their family or legal guardian.
• Child requires an institutional level of care at home that is typically provided in a hospital, nursing facility or an intermediate care facility.

• If your child is enrolled in RIteCare or RIteShare (Neighborhood Health Plan or United Healthcare), please contact your Insurance provider.
• If your child is enrolled in Cedar, contact your Cedar Coordinator.
